It is 12:11 and for some reason having a left over half piece of pizza and cleaning the kitchen seem far more important than sleeping even though I only got a couple hours last night... hmm

Got back from new york today. Steph and I went to the dyke march with rachel and her friend caryn. We got attacked by a crazy little stormy storm that lasted all of 10 minutes. It was sunny for the first time this summer (<--- WTF)

writing this is making me realize that I actually am exhausted soooo i'm gonna do that. but I'll write more about ny when I can't deal with looking at any more brain scans tomorrow.

I'm at work right now. I finally have a room to work in. Unfortunately that changed my view from:

Ok, maybe people walk by me all the time to get to the copier and to the kitchen, but this little couch has a b-e-a-utiful view and I get natural light! fun times.

My own space! Aka the storage room! I have a snazzy chair and some snazzy fluorescent lights and a snazzy lack of windows. It's pretty ok, except for the feeling like I live in a box thing.

My actual work right now consists of watching hours of footage of brains and looking for any movement (movement will screw up the data) and marking which frames have movement in them so they can be censored out when we do statistics on the data... they'll create noise and make our results less correct. Sounds unbelievably boring but it's pretty ok. I'm also learning a little bit of computer programming because Joe only uses linux and i'm having program stuff in order to get around the computer.

HERE IS ME AND MY ACCOUNT AND A BRAIN! YEAH PARTICIPANT esp059! Go your brain! go...

HOT CROSS BUNS!!!

Hear Ye Hear Ye! I can bake again! I figured out the problem with yesterday's flatbagels. I was using a kind of yeast that you have to activate before putting it in the recipe and the recipe called for rapid-rise yeast that you just put in with dry ingredients. Good to know

Anyways, I spent about 5 hours today making these. They're damn good. I'd double the frosting recipe next time.

pre work space!

little dough ball!

I got hungry and made chicken nuggets while i was waiting. There was a honey mustard sauce here too, but i ate it before i took pictures...

BIG dough ball!

little buns (<-- don't laugh)

big buns with xs (<-- seriously, don't laugh)

cooked and frosting-ed

yummy + soymilk

um seriously? so good

I tried to make bagels yesterday but they were a disappointing failure... Either the yeast was dead (possible) the oven is shittier than any oven i've ever used (possible) or the baking gods were smiting me for not calling upon them in a few weeks (also possible)

LOOK HOW SAD THEY ARE! Flat and disappointing. I think all three of the above are true.

In any case, i'm going to try a different easier kind of bread today and see if I can make it work (TIM GUNN I WANT YOU)

I keep waking up at 6am and 7am and 8am every single morning and staying awake at 8 no matter what. Weirder than weird!

I'm feeling a little lonely, which is certainly not fun. Probs didn't help that steph and everyone was hanging out with jackson for the last 2 days and i want to hang out with them!!

Steph and I saw Kate McKinnon in Starbucks in New York! I drooled. She is such teh pretty in real life. Here is a video

Oh... I'm such a creeper.

challo frienz

I've started my internship. It's going alright, if not a little slow-and-nerdy. The guy I'm mainly working for is a late 20something grad student named Joe. He has already started male-pattern-balding, wore plaid shorts and a striped shirt on our first meeting, is completely covered in very thick body hair (maybe take some of that and put on top of head), is chronically late, and sweats more than I do. By about double. If you didn't know, I sweat A LOT. All of this is something I can totally get past, but theee paaaace aaaaat whhhhich heeee wooooorkkkkssss aaaaand taaaaalkkkks is KILLING ME. So. Fucking. Slow. jesus man... really? I'm working noon-5 four days a week, but unpaid. Still no luck on the gainful employment front. I am semi-illegally participating in research studies for the other departments in my same building. I have 6 over the next two days resulting in, drum roll, $60!!!!! That is enough for groceries for over a month. Frugal living, friends. Frugal living. My solution to the fact that I can't get a job.

Steph is still in New York, so that's... lonely for me. I don't really know a lot of people around here and the ones I do I'd maaaaybe rather not hang out with for extended periods of time? IDK. She'll be back in a week.

I've been walking a lot to occupy my time. Walking, coming home, eating too much food, and watching movies. It's pretty ok. Yesterday on Newbury st I ran into two people I know from the valley. 1) this kid I worked on shira's div3 with who i got along with fine. 2) THAT GIRL SHARLENE FROM MY JANTERM CLASS FIRST YEAR SUPER AWKIESSSSS! Hadn't seen her since. Wowzers, that was spinechillingly awkward.

It just smelled like old smoke in here for a sec. That's probs not a good thing.

To Do:
- Get a job
- Send paula harmon all my internship 'expenditures' so far
- find a bunch of my shit that I can't find since moving in
- email my committee about how my internship is going/significantly rewrite div2 proposal and email it to them
- jesus christ, orgo porfolio. Redo problem sets 2-12, all lab edits, & final lab write up

Yep. That's what I got.
